The National Mall Liberty Fund DC ("Liberty Fund DC") is a nonprofit organization incorporated in the District of Columbia. In January 2008, the Internal Revenue Service granted the Liberty Fund DC tax exempt status. The effective date of the exemption is May 2, 2005, the date of incorporation.

The Liberty Fund DC believes that a memorial to African Americans of the Revolutionary War will inspire youth to achievement and exemplary citizenship. The memorial will demonstrate historic African American values at work in the founding of the nation and in the achievement of liberty.

The National Liberty Memorial will promote healing of long-festering wounds that date from slavery and the battle against segregation and discrimination. Americans will learn how enduring principles bind us together as one nation.

Once the memorial is constructed, interactive programs will educate citizens about the contributions of African Americans to the Revolutionary War and their influence on subsequent generations. 

The memorial will encourage genealogical and historical research to uncover connections between these forgotten patriots and Americans from all backgrounds.
